New Resources

The Bridging Refugee Youth & Children’s Services project has published, Raising Children in a New Country: An Illustrated Handbook, to help immigrant and refugee parents adjust to the laws, norms, and practices associated with raising children in the United States.

A new study from the National Center for Children in Poverty, Staying Afloat in Tough Times: What States Are and Aren’t Doing to Promote Family Economic Security, highlights the current economic challenges for America’s families and their children, as well as state level policies to address these problems.

The U.S. Department of Education has released a report for educators, administrators, and policymakers on Dropout Prevention to provide recommendations for reducing high school dropout rates.

New From the Center

Olga Acosta Price, co-director of the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools, presented at the 13th Annual Conference of the Center for School Mental Health. Her presentation, Adapting Evidence-Based Practices to Meet the Mental Health Needs of Immigrant and Refugee Communities, is available on our website at http://www.healthinschools.org/Publications-and-Resources/Presentations-by-CHHCS-Staff-and-Colleagues.aspx. This issue is especially timely, as there has been a 57% increase in foreign-born individuals in the US since 1990, and one of every five children in the US is a child of immigrants.

The Immigrant Children Survey is available online, and more responses leads to better data to share with you. This brief survey seeks information about the country of origin of the students you serve. Results will be posted on our website after the survey's conclusion.
