The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released Preparing for the Flu: A Communication Toolkit for Institutions of Higher Education to provide information and communication resources to help students, faculty, and staff implement recommendations from CDC’s Guidance for Responses to Influenza for Institutions of Higher Education during the 2009-2010 Academic Year.
The 2009 KIDS COUNT Data Book, published by The Annie E. Casey Foundation, is now available and provides a national and state-by-state look at the status of U.S. children.
Strategies to Support the Integration of Mental Health into Pediatric Primary Care, a recently released report form the National Institute for Health Care Management, provides an overview of research advances and policy trends that support integration of mental health

The Future Is Now Supporting the Needs of Immigrant and Refugee Children at School. 2009 School Health Interdisciplinary Program Conference, Ellicott City, MD. August 3, 2009.
This presentation summarizes recent immigration trends nationally and in the state of Maryland. It also describes several projects the Center has been working through the RWJF Caring Across Communities initiative. These projects have created a range of services and interventions that address both the academic and emotional needs of children and they offer lessons that all can use.

If health organizations are to provide prevention or treatment services in school, they must form successful partnerships with schools. While schools and health organizations share a commitment to children’s well-being, they have profoundly different organizational structures and operate in very different political environments. The presentation explains how the systems differ and how good partnership practices can overcome differences.

New recommendations on the continuity of learning in the event of student absences or school closures due to seasonal flu or H1N1 outbreaks were announced on August 24, 2009 by the U.S. Department of Education
Despite recent steps by the majority of teacher preparation programs to prepare teachers for instructing students with disabilities and English language learners, many programs faced challenges in providing this training, according to a report released on August 19, 2009 by the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released Preparing for the Flu: A Communication Toolkit for Institutions of Higher Education to provide information and communication resources to help students, faculty, and staff implement recommendations from CDC’s Guidance for Responses to Influenza for Institutions of Higher Education during the 2009-2010 Academic Year. The toolkit includes: two fact sheets for Institutes of Higher Education; one poster for Institution of Higher Education to remind sick people to stay home; one template letter for students, faculty, staff and parents; and two template announcements for faculty, staff and parents.

The 20th annual Data Book profiles the well-being of America’s children and ranks states on 10 key measures of child well-being. It is intended to gauge the seriousness of the problems facing children, and to guide the policy trends and goals on behalf of children.
